21st Birthday Thanks
HAPPY 21ST VILLAGE SCHOOL!!
What a wonderful day we had. Carol Glover, our founding Principal was ‘blown away’ by everything, and used the word ‘amazing’ at least 20 thousand times - no exaggeration!
It was fantastic to see so many Villagers from the distant and recent past, all eager to share the day and catch up with us.
The feel of the day was wonderful with the whole community working together to achieve the best result. Even the weather behaved itself -imagine if it had been last week.
I don’t like listing ‘thank you’s, because so often people who have contributed are accidentally left out and feel disappointed - I can’t believe that I forgot to thank Tanya on the night, I mean, what did she do? Only organise, rehearse, co-ordinate and present the entertainment for the whole day! (Ulp!) Thank you Tanya!
On this occasion, I think that I could list the entire Village community and have something against each name to thank you for. We have had groups of parents coming to school for a while now to do whatever they could to help ready the school for the big day. When we were away on Camp, parents came to school to clean up the inside and outside of the place. The turning circle was weeded, yet again (I think that Carol and Debbie must see it in their nightmares) and given some new plants. In the days since Camp there have been daily visits by parents to do extra jobs in readiness - if you wondered where the bird poo, which used to be on the rail outside the office, went to, ask Jenny L. The whole community got involved and the success of the day was deserved by all.
In fairness, I must thank some people in particular-
- The Birthday Committee which under the expert organisational skills of Bronwyn pulled together a day which worked like clockwork and provided opportunities for Villagers to keep in touch in the future, and acquire memorabilia of the past.
- Jenny McK. and Carol W. who turned their hands to just about everything and now have only bones left- no fingers!
- Christine and John F., who magicked the gazebo into being, transformed the grounds into parkland and planted Carol’s tree in such a way that it looked as if it had been there for ages.
- A., M. and J.F. who now have to come to terms with the fact that they don’t live at Village School after all.
- Kylie C., who cooked up a storm in the days before the party, arrived at about mid-day on Saturday, plonked herself in the kitchen and stayed there. She and various helpers provided delicious food which was unanimously enjoyed and which lasted all day, yum!
- Amanda and Sheila, who helped greatly with the food preparations.
- Buddy, who amazed and fascinated past students by the amount that he had shrunk, and who gave rides to all who wanted, despite having worked for six hours straight, at Flemington. He was charmingly aided and abetted by Shannon, who had also worked at Flemington.
- Philip and Jenny, for the wonderful surprise birthday present of a table tennis table - boy, will that be well used!!
- Owen S., for the beautiful and delicious birthday cake. He has just become engaged to a lovely and very lucky young lady, she’ll probably never have to cook again.
- Those who provided delicious cakes and biscuits - blessed are the cake bakers!
- All the Village students who had fun, and conducted themselves beautifully.
If I’ve left you off the list, I’m sorry. I had a very late night - it was about 3am Sunday before I could get the buzz out of my head and the grin off my face and go to sleep.
It was a wonderful day!!
THANK YOU, EVERYBODY!!!
Mary (Village School Principal).
